Paraeductor Honored For Her Lifesaving Abilities
Candie McHaffie successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver on a student at Edmonds Elementary School.

An Edmonds School District paraeducator was honored last week not for her educational abilities but for her lifesaving abilities.
Paraeducator Candie McHaffie received a Governor's Lifesaving Award at a conference in Tacoma on Sept. 28.
McHaffie, who works at , received the award for performing the Heimlich maneuver on a student who was choking during lunch last spring.

When asked about what happed, Candie says she was "just doing her job."
Edmonds Elementary Principal Melissa Oliver had a slightly different take: "She was doing her job in the best way possible."
