UPDATE: Swedish/Edmonds Suspect Has Extensive Criminal History

The 29-year-old man, who has not been identified, has been arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail in Everett.

The driver of a stolen Lexus SUV who crashed into a tree by the emergency room of Swedish/Edmonds Medical Center Wednesday morning has been identified as a 29-year-old Seattle man.

The Lynnwood Police arrested the suspect on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding police. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail in Everett late this morning for after being released from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The suspect has an extensive criminal history and narcotics are believed to have been involved in this early-morning incident.

Wednesday's police chase began just after midnight after a traffic stop as a Lynnwood Police officer tried to make contact with the driver near 196th Street SW and Highway 99 in Lynnwood.

After the driver took off, the officer pursued the man southbound on Highway 99 for a short distance. The chase ended at Swedish/Edmonds when the driver crashed into a tree near the emergency room. The SUV ended on its side, and the mangled tree was later uprooted and taken away.

No one else was injured and property damage in the hospital parking lot was minimal as the suspected driver missed parked cars nearby.

Police continue to investigate.
