Police Nab OfferUp Thieves In Sting At Dick's Drive-In

The three unlucky thieves did not know they were attempting to sell stolen items to police officers.

EDMONDS, WA - Local police recently set up a sting at the Edmonds Dick's Drive-In to catch thieves who were allegedly selling stolen goods through the app OfferUp.

The sting was set up after a theft early last Friday morning, according to Lynnwood police. A man was seen around 4 a.m. taking landscape equipment - a leaf blower, chainsaw, and weed eater - from the bed of a pickup truck parked along the 5900 block of 200th Street Southwest.

The owner of the pickup truck later in the day found his missing equipment on OfferUp, according to police. On top of that, a Lynnwood officer recognized another piece of stolen equipment on the same OfferUp account.

Posing as potential buyers, officers offered to buy the equipment at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Dick's Drive-In along SR 99. When the sellers arrived, police moved in, arresting a woman and two men on charges of trafficking stolen property and possession of stolen property.

Police recovered several stolen items from the alleged thieves.
