Public Meeting to Focus on Fire-Service Consolidation in South Snohomish County

Edmonds is one of the cities that would be affecting by combing fire and emergency services.

The Regional Fire Authority Planning Committee will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Brackett Room at Edmonds City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N.

The meeting is open to the public.

Committee members will view a PowerPoint program that will be presented to community groups to provide an overview of the RFA planning process. Also on the agenda are updates from subcommittees working on finance and level of service plans.

Nine jurisdictions are participating in the talks: Edmonds, Brier, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo, Woodway and Snohomish County Fire Districts 1 and 7.

In March, each jurisdiction appointed three elected officials to serve on the RFA Planning Committee to study the idea of combining fire and emergency services. If the committee determines this would be feasible for south Snohomish County, a ballot measure to create an RFA would be put before voters. This planning process is expected to take at least two years.
