Seattle Sounders Select SeaWolves Striker Abdul Aman in MLS Draft

Striker Abdul Aman of the Edmonds-based North Sound SeaWolves has been selected by the Seattle Sounders in Major League Soccer’s supplemental draft.

Aman was taken in the third round, No. 53 overall.

“We’re very excited for Abdul,” SeaWolves owner/coach Alex Silva said. “He worked very hard to get to this point, and we’re very proud of him. He’s a perfect example of what we are trying to do with the SeaWolves.”

Aman, a 22-year-old native of Ethiopia, had three goals and one assist for the SeaWolves in 2011. In part based on his performance with the SeaWolves, Aman was recruited to the University of Washington, where he scored two goals for the Huskies as a senior this past season.

Aman was one of four selections the Sounders made last week, on top of the two picks the club made this past week in the MLS SuperDraft. He joined the Sounders when they begin preseason training on Friday. The team begins the regular season in March.

“It’s a great opportunity for Abdul to show what he can do,” Silva said. “He’s going to have a great experience.”

The Edmonds-based SeaWolves are a member of the Premier Development League, the highest level of amateur soccer in the United States. The club is designed to give college players an opportunity to showcase their abilities in hopes of forwarding their careers.
