Shoreline Mayor and Council Throw Support Behind Marriage Equality

Edmonds supported its own resolution this week as well.

At the same time on Monday night that the City of Edmonds approved a resolution supporting marriage equality in Washington, the Shoreline City Council and Mayor Keith McGlashan signed a letter of support.

And with the support of Democratic Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, the state Senate has enough votes to pass a bill on gay marriage. The House already has enough votes and Gov. Gregoire is supporting it. Washington voters will likely get to vote on a referendum to allow gay marriage in November.

"I never thought I’d see it my lifetime," said McGlashan, who is openly gay and a board member of the Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Local Officials Committee. "I’m excited to see the votes in the Senate."

was signed by councilmembers Michael Plunkett, Diane Buckshnis, Adrienne Fraley-Monillas and Strom Peterson. Abstaining were Mayor Dave Earling and councilmembers Lora Petso, Joan Bloom and Frank Yamamoto.
