SnoCo Eyes Paine Field, AMMIC As Future Project Sites

From Snohomish County: Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers today declared an undeveloped portion of Paine Field in Everett and the Arlington Marysville Manufacturing Industrial Center (AMMIC) as two potential “Projects of Countywide Significance.”

The intent of this declaration is to help ease permitting and improve the county’s chances of recruiting new businesses or supporting the expansion of existing businesses.

“I am committed to using every available tool to help our partners in the business community create jobs and diversify our economy,”said Dave Somers, Snohomish County Executive. “When Boeing, Amazon, Microsoft, or other major employers in our local community or outside our region go looking for a place to expand, we want them looking here. We think Snohomish County will provide everything they need.”

By declaring these areas as potential locations for “projects of countywide significance,” the County Executive will assign professional staff who will be charged with facilitating and expediting any permitting work when needed.

“We want to see expanded opportunities for all of our county’s residents,” said Stephanie Wright, Chair, Snohomish County Council. “Working together to attract businesses will keep good jobs local, and that will help everyone succeed.”

“Businesses both big and small can reap the rewards of more economic development investments in Snohomish County,” said Terry Ryan, Vice Chair of the Snohomish County Council. “We have many exciting opportunities ahead of us.”

“By increasing the visibility of some of our best economic assets, we can better market ourselves to the business community,” said Brian Sullivan, Snohomish County Councilmember. “Whether you are a worker or a business owner, there are benefits from more economic activity in the county.”

“As a former small business owner, I know that these efforts can help attract new business to our community,” said Sam Low, Snohomish County Councilmember. “Ultimately, our economy is strengthened the more we can attract investments and new opportunities for our entrepreneurs.”

“I have been a strong supporter of the Arlington/Marysville MIC and think this will help bring greater attention to this important regional asset,” said Nate Nehring, Snohomish County Councilmember. “This is a great sign of the strong partnerships between the county and cities, all working together to strengthen and expand our economy.”
