Snohomish County's Pro Hockey Team Begins New Season Today on the Road

The Everett Silvertips play Portland. The home opener is Saturday at Comcast Arena.

Professional hockey begins a new season today in Snohomish County and the rest of Puget Sound.

The Western Hockey League, covering two states and four Canadian provinces, consists of 22 teams in four leagues .

The Everett Silvertips are part of the U.S. Division, along with the Seattle Thunderbirds, Spokane Chiefs, Tri-City Americans and Portland Winterhawks.

The Silvertips begin their season against the Winterhawks tonight at 7 on the road at the Rose Garden. Action can be hear on KKXA-1520 AM. The Everett team’s home opener is Saturday against the Kelowna Rockets at Comcast Arena in Everett. The game can be heard on KKXA-1520 AM.

The Western Hockey League, now in its 46th year, feature young players. The team has several  players who are 16 years old, including goaltender Austin Lotz, who celebrated his 16th in May. Lotz is not the team’s No. 1 goalie.

The Silvertips are lead by Ryan Murray, Tyler Maxwell, Josh Birkholz and goalie Kent Simpson.

Everett’s coach is Mark Ferner.
