Stuck Tugboat Horn Keeps Everett Residents Awake For Hours Sunday
The horn on a a tugboat docked at the Port of Everett got stuck Sunday night, keeping people awake for four hours.

EVERETT, WA - If you live near water, hearing a brief toot from a tugboat horn is pretty routine. But when a tugboat horn gets stuck blaring on the hottest night of the year in Puget Sound, that's not so routine.
That's what happened to Everett residents living near the port on Sunday night. The horn on a tugboat undergoing maintenance docked at the port got stuck, and just kept on going. The horn was stuck for about four hours, according to the Everett Herald. The noise was so bad, the port issued an apology to city residents:
Neighbors:
We apologize for the prolonged horn noise at the Port last night. One of our customers has been doing some finishing work on a new ocean-going tug boat, and the horn malfunctioned. Our customer has assured us they have remedied the issue.
Please accept our sincere apologies on the noise, the time it took to figure out how to turn off the horn and the fact that it happened on the hottest day of the year so far.
Sincerely,
Les Reardanz
CEO Port of Everett
Everett's main port facilities are located in Puget Sound northwest of the downtown area. The neighborhood immediately east of the port is packed with single-family homes and apartment buildings.
