The 17-year-old was hiking with two other teenagers when the tree fell. The other two were uninjured. They were hiking along a busy trail that connects the main parking lot to the beachfront along Puget Sound.

The region has been soaked with rain over the past two months, which loosens soil and weakens trees. An overnight strong wind event preceded the tragedy.
