INDEX, WA - A 25-year-old woman from Texas disappeared Tuesday night along the Skykomish River, and has presumably drowned. The woman was at the river with family and was last seen sitting on a rock in the Sunset Falls area, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. This is the second person to disappear near Sunset Falls in June.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said that large-scale rescue operations had been called off. Search-and-rescue personnel will continue to check the area, however.
The accident happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday. After the woman's family reported her missing, the county's helicopter, Snohawk1, searched the area for an hour; firefighters on the ground also searched for the woman. The search was suspended around 9 p.m. due to darkness.
