The Best Back-To-School Advice

Schools are about to get back into session. Time to think about a mountain of things: clothes, shoes, lunch packs, childcare, signing up for activities and sports and classroom supplies.

Try to involve your child in the decisions you make. I don't mean selecting a daycare. I mean the choices about what they will wear, carry their lunch in, select for activities and classroom supplies.

I can hear you now, groaning about taking your kids to all the shopping stops, but think about it. Would you want someone to select the things you use on a daily basis? If the idea of having them take on the whole selection process is too much, at least take your child along to select school supplies and the lunch bag. You may set up a few parameters to speed up the process: Do you want the orange tool box or the blue? Do you want a red folder or a purple one?

Ownership + decision making = an invested child. Take the plunge. It might me fun. Maybe?
