"Transcendence" Featuring Photography and Digital Artwork by Anne Prather
Photographer Anne Prather Decodes the Rules of Beauty in her Exhibit "Transcendence" at Gallery North.
Born blind, Anne Prather’s cataract surgery at age 36 opened a whole new world of vision to her. Anne explores the underlying rules of beauty in nature through her photography and fractals.
Captivated by the intricate beauty of plants, Anne turned her efforts to capturing the texture and patterns that her new lens implants allowed her to see. From mountains to the faces of glaciers, to the facets of crystals, Anne set her camera to the challenge of capturing the labyrinthine world her eyes drank in. Longing to understand the rules that generated all this beauty, Anne bought the modeling program Xenodream and began to generate fractals and other models and shapes. “It’s weird how in a nearly infinite parameter space I’ll always find the plant shape or the shell or the crystal, even if I don’t start out to make these shapes deliberately. It’s like my mind intuitively understands the rules for creating these things,” Anne explains.
The Artist’s Reception for “Transcendence” will be held Sunday, September 13 from 1-4 PM. You also can meet Anne and other gallery members at the Edmonds Art Walk on Thursday, September 17 from 5-8PM. This exhibit is open to the public seven days a week September 1-30.
