WA State Police Cracking Down On Left Lane 'Campers'

Make sure you only use the left lane on freeways to pass - otherwise you might get a ticket.

EDMONDS, WA - If you're going camping soon, watch out for Washington State Patrol. That is, left-lane camping. In Washington, it's illegal to drive in the left lane along a highway or freeway. Drivers are only supposed to use that lane for passing.

A left-lane "camper" is someone who drives in the far-left lane because they think it's the "fast lane." Here's the RCW:

"[A]ll vehicles [must] keep right except when passing on multiple lane roadways. Left lane “campers” are drivers who remain in the passing lane (left lane) for long periods of time without passing."
