Cayuse Pass Open, but Not Chinook Pass

Cayuse Pass, which connects State Route 410 to White Pass opened on Thursday. At present, there's still no open date for Chinook Pass.

The Washington state Department of Transportation opened Cayuse Pass on Thursday, May 26. The pass helps to connect travelers from State Route 410 -- and Chinook Pass when it's open -- to White Pass. Drivers can access US 12 from State Route 410 via State Route 123.

According to WSDOT, the 4,675-foot-high pass is about five miles west of the Chinook Pass summit.

However, due to heavy snow this year, Chinook Pass remains closed through the Memorial Day weekend. There is no scheduled opening date for Chinook Pass though WSDOT reports that crews are close to clearing the summit area and expect to make good progress next week.
