In an overview of business patterns in Enumclaw for the year 2009, there were 129 businesses listed as construction -- more than any other single industry.

Even into the end of 2011, the U.S. Census Bureau continues to release new data analyses from the 2010 Census. While perusing the numbers recently on the bureau's website (www.census.gov), we came across an interesting look at business patterns in the Enumclaw area from the year 2009.

By selecting the local zip code '98022' at the County Business Patterns page (www.census.gov/econ/cbp/) we turned up that there were 590 businesses under that zip code that year, and 129 of those businesses were listed as Construction. The majority of those 129 had employees under four.

The next largest industry type was listed as Retail Trade and there were 81 such businesses that year. Again, the majority had less than five employees. Interestingly enough, we searched business patterns in the year 1998 and found there were also 81 retail trade businesses that year. Recession or no recession, the number of small retail businesses appears to stay rather stable.

The next industry down is Health care and social assistance, with 60 businesses. We think this probably makes sense with a local hospital (then Enumclaw Regional Hospital.)
