Earthquake Strikes Near Mount Rainier Early Tuesday
The magnitude 2.8 hit around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday near the headwaters of the White River.

ENUMCLAW, WA - A relatively strong earthquake struck near Mount Rainier early Tuesday morning. The magnitude 2.8 quake was located about 27 miles southeast of Enumclaw near the headwaters of the White River at the northeast corner of the park.
According to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, the Tuesday quake was the strongest in the area in recent times. A magnitude 3.9 struck near this quake - in 1975. In 2006, there was a magnitude 4.5 in the area.
