Enumclaw Area Could See Increased DUI Patrols

The King County Sheriff's Office will put "emphasis" on southeast parts of the county in coming days.

ENUMCLAW, WA - The King County Sheriff's Office on Thursday said that it will send extra deputies to patrol southeast parts of King County this weekend to keep impaired drivers off the road.

The message did not specify exactly where law enforcement would concentrate its DUI patrols this weekend - however, a deadly car crash involving an allegedly impaired driver occurred near Enumclaw in early October. In that accident, the driver struck a tree along Route 410 near 3 a.m. One person died, four others were injured.

In addition to watching out for impaired drivers, deputies will visit businesses that sell alcohol to educate employees about how to find transportation for intoxicated patrons.

If deputies arrest a drunk driver, they will investigate whether the person had been drinking at a business. If so, deputies will contact the business to remind them of the consequences of over-serving customers, including civil penalties.
