Enumclaw Group to Mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month with Ceremony Saturday

All members of the community are encouraged to come out and hear about being a part of the solution to preventing domestic violence.

A group of local leaders who've worked over the past few months to bring awareness of domestic violence issues and resources to the community is marking the month of October -- also known as Domestic Violence Awareness month -- with a tree lighting ceremony downtown this Saturday.

The group, better known as LINCCK, or Linking Civility, Compassion and Kindness, is asking residents to meet at Cole Street and Initial Avenue for a gathering to bring to light what domestic violence is and how to help stop it.

"We all need to be part of the solution," local attorney and group leader Trip Hart wrote to Patch in an email.

As part of Domestic Violence Awareness month, the group is also putting up signs and silhouettes at City Hall and around town for the Silent Witness program as well as arranging purple lights at various locations downtown in an effort to emulate the Purple Light Nights program that the Covington DV Task force began several years ago, Hart said.

City street lights have been strung with purple lights, which will be lit during the month of October. St. Elizabeth Hospital, other local businesses and some residences will be having purple lights during the month as well, according to Hart.

The event Saturday begins at 8 p.m. at Cole Street and Initial Avenue. In the event of inclement weather, the group will then gather in the gazebo in Rotary Park, one block to the east.
