Gallery 2011 Presents Steve & Judi Le Penske: The New England Landscape

The city of Enumclaw introduces Steve and Judi Le Penske as Gallery 2011's featured May artists, according to a city press release.

Local artists, Steve and Judi Le Penske, have two very distinct styles of photography, both resulting in stunning images. Steve and Judi have been represented in many exhibits and on multiple occasions have had solo shows at the Enumclaw Gallery.  Their work is also available for purchase at the Arts Alive! Gallery on Cole Street, in downtown Enumclaw. 

According to the artists, “The images in this exhibit were captured during an 18 day visit to the New England states in October of 2010.  Realizing that fall color varies tremendously from year to year we concentrated on locations and images that characterize the New England landscape i.e. covered bridges, grist mills, light houses, barns, small towns and not just fall color.  This was fortunate because it was not a spectacular year for fall color.  

We also tried to capture the rural nature of New England.  Given that the population of King County is greater than the population of either Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine or Rhode Island, we were not disappointed in the number and variety of rural images we discovered.

We found people extremely friendly and not only willing to allow us to access their property to photograph but also anxious to tell us the history of their farm which frequently had been in their family for generations.  

It cannot be overstated how rich the New England area is in the history of our nation.  Plaques bearing the date of construction appear on many churches, homes and public buildings and frequently date from the 1700s.  Dates on tombstones from the late 1600 and early 1700s were common as were the tombs of prominent Americans such a poet, Robert Frost.

Judi and I enjoy photographing together and comparing how differently we see and capture the same image. 

Most all images appear as they were captured with minimal post processing. We shoot with a Canon 5D Mark ll and Canon 40D. If you are interested in purchasing any of the images on display or any of our other local or travel images please feel free to contact us."

A public reception for the artist will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 3 – 5 PM at City Hall, Gallery 2011.

City Hall Entryway Display Case

Ed Konvalin’s pottery will continue to be presented in the entryway display case at City Hall from April 6, to May 31, 2011. The pottery I've created has been shown at various venues throughout Washington’s Puget Sound and California’s San Francisco Bay Area.

Gallery artist schedules for 2011 are as follows: June, David Jayne; July, John Woodard; August, Sallie Zydek; September, Bob Schillereff; October, Contemporary Quilt Art Association; November, Dennis Harrison; and December, Mike Dilbeck. 

Gallery 2011 is located in the Council Chambers at Enumclaw City Hall.  1339 Griffin Ave. Enumclaw, WA 98022.  Hours for the exhibition space are 8:00 a. m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Enumclaw City Hall is closed on national holidays. The gallery is closed to the public on Tuesday of each week for municipal court proceedings.
