I saw a mountain lion today by Kanaskat

I ‘tawt I saw a poody ‘tat!
I did, I did see a cat–a big cat.

This morning as I was nearing Kanaskat State Park in Washington State a mountain lion ran across the road in front of me. I darn-neared wrecked my car to get a better view of her. There was a car right behind me so I couldn’t stop right then and there and stare at her–but it was definitely a mountain lion.

My husband’s favorite show is Mountain Men on the History Channel so I’ve been watching it with him recently. There is a mountain lion hunter on the show so I’ve seen lots of recent video of mountain lions. I clarify this because I don’t want anyone to doubt me–it was most definitely a mountain lion (also known as a cougar).

The one I saw was young–not nearly as big as this stock photo, but I know it wasn’t a bob-cat or a yellow dog or anything of the sort.

My husband is a hunter–been living in Washington for nearly 35 years and he’s never seen a lion so I feel pretty privileged to have seen her. I hope she stays off the road though. I’d hate to have her hit by a car.

On the startling side, I was probably only about ten miles from home when I spotted this big cat. I know our neighbors have livestock so I hope that they don’t start having predator problems.
