It's All About Commotion At This Camp

Enumclaw's rec department keeps the kids busy during the summer.

It probably won’t surprise you that there is a lot of commotion going on at Camp Commotion.

The Enumclaw Parks and Recreation Department’s daylong summer camp for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade is winding down.

Assisting director Aimee Herrell said there have been about 40 kids on average each week, with a high of 70 when they went to Wild Waves. Other trips have taken them to the zoo, aquarium, Pacific Science Center, Children’s Museum and Mariners and Storm games.

Ten college and high school counselors worked with the kids. If the youngsters got out of line there were warnings and timeouts, but taking away pool privileges seemed to work best, Herrell said.

“Getting to know the kids on a personal level” was her favorite part of camp, Herrell said, adding, “As hard as it is, it’s sad to leave.”
