King County to Rebuild Bridge on S.E. 424th Street Near Enumclaw
Work begins June 20 with the road being closed for five months.

Editor's Note: The following is a press release issued by King County this week.
King County is rebuilding a bridge north of Enumclaw on Southeast 424th Street west of 284th Avenue Southeast. The road and bridge will close Monday, June 20. The project is expected to be completed in November.Β
The current bridge in that location is 60 years old. The timber piles supporting the bridge are rotting and cracked, creating a hazard.Β

During construction, theΒ Β King County Road Services Division will demolish the existing bridgeΒ and a new bridgeΒ will beΒ built in its place. The project activities include: demolition; pile driving; construction of abutment walls, wing walls, a precast solid-slab deck, guardrails, and bridge rails; utility relocations; and any finish work that is needed.Β
While the project is underway, the roadway will be closed from 500 feet on either side of the bridge. A nearby trail that crosses 424th Avenue SE in that location will have a short detour. The work in and around Watercress Creek must be completed within the June-September window for permits issued by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.Β
