Local Knights of Columbus Crown Free Throw Champions

Seven youths from the Enumclaw area who competed in the annual free throw contest earned the right to complete at the district level on Feb. 11.

Seven boys and girls from the Enumclaw area between ages 10 and 14 were named local champions of the 2012 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship that took place last Saturday at Southwood Elementary School, according to organizer George Rossman.

The following youths took the prize in each age group:

Girls:

  • 10-year-old: Danica Seabrands
  • 12-year-old: Jessica Cerne
  • 13-year-old: Sydney Andersen

Boys:

  • 11-year-old: Ricky Sabario
  • 12-year-old: Trevor Cassell
  • 13-year-old: Drew Seabrands
  • 14-year-old: Blake McBroom

Each contestant was allowed 15 free throw attempts in the contests. Ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged.

Each of the winners will compete in the district competition to be held on Feb.11 at All Saints Church in Puyallup with an eye toward moving on to the state and international levels.

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district and state competitions. International champions are announced by the Knights of Columbus international headquarters based on scores from the state - level competitions.  All boys and girls 10 to 14 years of age are eligible to participate and compete in their respective age divisions. Last year more than 179,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3,000 local competitions.
