New Details In Enumclaw Police Shooting Released

The sheriff's office on Tuesday afternoon released new details about an officer-involved shooting during an Enumclaw domestic dispute.

ENUMCLAW, WA - The King County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday afternoon released a clearer picture of what happened leading up to a police shooting in Enumclaw early this morning. The shooting happened just after 4 a.m. at a home along the 29500 block of Southeast 472nd Street.

Deputies initially responded to the home after a woman called to report that her boyfriend had hit her and her 13-year-old son. The woman told the dispatcher that the boyfriend had locked himself inside a room in the home that contained several guns.

When deputies arrived, the woman exited the home with her son, and the officers requested medical aid to treat the woman's injuries.

Then, the boyfriend allegedly shut off all the lights in the home. With no street lights available, one deputy put on night vision goggles, and saw the suspect moving toward them holding a rifle. The two deputies ordered the man to drop the weapon, but they say that pointed it at them. That's when they opened fire.

The 39-year-old man was seriously wounded, but was taken to Harborview Medical Center and is expected to survive. The deputy who opened fire has been a sheriff's deputy for 18 years, according to the department.
