Platinum Hangar offers top-quality used clothes, furniture

Owner not worried because locals told her they wanted such a store.

Editor’s note: Downtown Enumclaw has seen impressive growth the past few months. The following is the third in a series on new businesses downtown.

Cindy Highsmith believes in billionaire Warren Buffet’s
philosophy that the “best time to buy a farm is during a drought.”

That’s why she’s not too nervous about starting her first business, The Platinum Hangar at 1617 Cole St. downtown.  Despite the troubled economy the past few years, Highsmith says: “People are hopeful. We can’t be afraid or intimidated. If everyone stopped then we’d be in big trouble.”

One advantage to Highsmith’s store is she sells gently used clothes and furniture on consignment, along with new, for up to 60 percent less than stores that only sell new items.

“I’m very picky about what I take,” she said, adding they are afford-able but excellent brands.

People bring in items, and if they don’t sell within 60 days she gets rid of those things.

“We have an ever-changing inventory” that customers like to check out every few weeks, she said.

Highsmith said she did some investigating before opening the shop and found out locals were excited about a high-end second-hand clothing
store.

“People love the concept,” she said. “There’s nothing like this type of store” in town.
