My Golden Road to Eldorado
My heart took one rocky road,
My beloved took another.
He’d been my young gallant knight,
But alas, my heart was downtrodden.
I searched for his tenderness and character in others,
Yearning to find a knightly match.
I journeyed down the marriage aisle twice
But twofold was sadly heartbroken.

God intervened, as only He can do,
Three decades passed before He brought us together again.
My knight resolutely persevered, bumped and bruised,
And at last we were rejoined in our golden Eldorado.
Our lost city of gold was splendidly built with golden stones
But rocky with storms, age, ruts, and hurdles.
Our love grew to new passionate depths,
Blossoming and building contented love and devotion.

The preceding poem is the preface in my book Goldstone Inn. I wrote this poetic synopsis to describe the story of Lucy and Jedidiah, high-school sweethearts whose love reignites nearly 30 years later. The story revolves around the resurrection of an 1885 stone barn that is built into a magnificent Tuscan-styled inn–and likewise, relationships are resurrected and constructed.
