Doesn’t make much sense, does it? Actually, politics actually seems just as nonsensical to me at times. So does the crime and negativity on the news. I watched five minutes of news tonight and learned of one vehicular homicide, a policeman defending his home resulting in the death of an armed man, a mentally challenged mother guilty of killing her two-year-old, and two buildings torched by an arsonist. I also saw a frightening story of a small town terrorized when their American flag was burned and many sites were defamed with alarming graffiti.

I had to turn it off. I know—that was probably irresponsible of me to turn off the news because I didn’t want to hear anymore, but really, would I be any better off hearing about another murder, theft, or rape? I suppose it could be argued that I need to be aware of what is happening in the communities nearby, but is there anything I can do about it?

I can pray plentiful prayers. I can pray for the safety of humankind; pray that they will be free from harm and not succumb to evil voices that cause them to do unspeakable acts against another human or animal. I can pray for our government to become enlightened to the fact that there are horrific crimes that are happening right here in our country. And while it is admirable that Americans defend the helpless and tortured people around the world, I can pray for the safety of Americans on our soil.

I can also choose to vote for the leaders who promise to clean up crime in our streets. Vote for the leaders who historically have supported causes such as help for the homeless, the mentally ill, and the underdogs that are our neighbors on our soil—not just those in other countries.

I don’t typically talk—or write—about politics. I’m not well-versed in policies, treaties, and bills being presented to congress. But I am a Christian, and not afraid to let it be known that I believe in God. I believe that prayer can heal the wounded and the wicked. I believe that even a timid little grandma like me can change the world by praying.

I know that my Political ABC poem didn’t make a lot of sense—I was grasping for words near the end. By the way, zygnomics is legally supported constraint on human freedom. Xenocracy is government by a body of foreigners. Pretty scary words, huh? Might I suggest you add them to your vocabulary? You don’t want to have them sneak up on you when you are unprepared.

I know there are negative, hateful, and downright mean people in this world. I believe that my Jesus will come again and I will be released from the traumas of this world. In my opinion, there are a lot of “important” people who are also grasping for the right words. They are so concerned with what they say in public that in private they forget to say the words that should come easily and plentifully—the prayers—they frequently don’t come at all.

So I’ll add one more prayer to my routine—I’ll pray that our leaders never forget to say their prayers. God is the answer—He can heal the world if we come together and ask it of Him.
