Rotary Fishing Fundraiser Postponed Due to High Algae Bloom
A combination of hot weather last week along with the pink salmon run occurring in Boise Creek probably caused the bloom, said pond owner, and the fish aren't biting.

The Rotary Fishing Mania! event that had been scheduled for this Saturday, October 1 at Crystal Ponds Park has been postponed due to high algae bloom in the water.
Joanne Treat, owner of Crystal Ponds, which is a private property near the Expo Center, told Patch Tuesday that the pond is starting to clear but there is still a cloudiness in the water.
More importantly, the decaying algae -- which itself was caused by last week's hot weather along with the decaying matter left over from the pink salmon run in Boise Creek, which feeds Crystal Ponds -- was choking off oxygen for the pond fish, Treat said.

"It stopped the fish from feeding," she said.
Treat said the event will likely be rescheduled for sometime in spring or early summer next year.

This is Rotary's second year sponsoring the Fishing Mania! event, Treat said. Proceeds benefit a number of local recipients including local food banks, the city library, Plateau Outreach Ministries and the Backpacks and School Supplies Program.
Crystal Ponds is a private park available for event rentals. Click here for more information.
