Section of Foothills Trail Remains Closed

The ice storm two weeks ago that downed a lot of tree branches and other debris caused the city to shut down the section of the trail between S.E. 456th Street and 252nd Avenue S.E.

On a nice and dry Tuesday afternoon, we went for a stroll on the Enumclaw Foothills trail north of S.E. 456th Street when we noticed quite a few walkers, joggers and bicyclists were skirting around a barricade that has been put up blocking access to the trail south of the intersection due to fallen debris from the ice and wind storms two weeks ago.

Admittedly, we went around the barricade ourselves to have a peek at the conditions and though it appeared that the trail had been cleared of most fallen debris, it is still officially closed, City Public Works Director Chris Searcy wrote to Patch in an email today.

City crews have not yet been through to assess the trail for hazards, he said, though they plan to be there this week and have it cleaned up for the upcoming weekend.

Priorities have been at the city golf course as well as the Expo Center, to remove hazards in preparation for the this weekend.

"We would appreciate the public respecting the barricades and their patience and understanding of the impact this storm cleanup has had on our limited staff as we prioritize the cleanup work the best we can," he said.
