Sunrise to Open, Memorial Service for Fallen Ranger Friday

The National Park Service tweeted Thursday afternoon that the area opens Friday, June 29 after the road opening was delayed a week due to efforts to recover the body of climbing ranger Nick Hall who was killed in a rescue effort last week.

As official as it can get on Twitter, the Mount Rainier National Park Service announced the Sunrise area is opening tomorrow, Friday, June 29.

An update from the park on Wednesday, June 27 indicated crews were assessing an effort that would be occurring today.

We're not certain if his body has been recovered yet but his memorial service, which takes place at the Visitor Center at Paradise (closed to the public) will be streamed live starting at 10 a.m. Friday at http://www.dvidshub.net/webcast/2477.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord is making the stream possible, said park officials.

The Hall family has asked that donations in honor of Nick Hall be made in lieu of flowers. Donations that support search and rescue in Maine and assist the Hall family with expenses related to the tragedy may be made through the following accounts:
