Oklahoma! is a musical of high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys in a western territory with all the romance, drama and comedy a 2-hour show can offer! A groundbreaking musical score showcases Tahoma High School’s talented cast, directed by Melissa Bean, musically directed by Ken Riggs, and choreographed by Indeah Harris. Performances are May 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 7 pm and May 7 and 14 at 2 pm at the Tahoma Middle School Theatre in Maple Valley. Tickets are $12 adults, $8 students and senior citizens, and $5 children under 5.

Charismatic cowboy Curly (Sam Bennett) is in love with spirited farm girl Laurey (Morgan Roberts) but they are both too stubborn to admit their feelings for each other. When Laurey plays hard to get by refusing Curly’s tardy and teasing invitation to the box social, and instead accepts a ride with the brooding and possibly dangerous Jud Fry (Tanner Fuller), tensions rise between the men, capturing the attention of the whole town. Meanwhile Laurey’s sweet but flirtatious friend Ado Annie (Mikayla Kay) has fallen for a shifty peddler, Ali Hakim (Everett Wall), but the determined courtship of steadfast cowboy Will Parker (Gunar Peterson) may set things right. Beloved frontier woman Aunt Eller (Rachel Bridges) offers common sense and a firm guiding hand to the whole town through it all in her own special way.

Oklahoma! is Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration and won them a special Pulitzer Prize for music in 1944. Oklahoma! broke old musical comedy conventions and ushered in the Golden Age of American musical theatre when it epitomized the development of the "book musical", a musical play where the songs and dances are fully integrated into a well-made story. Songs include Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’, People Will Say We’re In Love, Surrey with the Fringe On Top, Kansas City, Many a New Day, All Er Nuthin’, and Oklahoma! Based on the play “Green Grow the Lilacs” by Lynn Riggs, music by Richard Rodgers, book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, with original dances by Agnes de Mille. Oklahoma! is presented through special arrangement with R&H Theatricals. www.rnh.com
