Turn in Your Ballots Today so Your Vote Will Count
Deadline Aug. 16 for mailing in vote or taking it to a drop box.
The King County Primary Election is today, Aug. 16, and voters have until 5 p.m. to mail their ballots with a stamp through the postal service or 8 p.m. if they take it to a drop box – the closest one to Enumclaw is in Maple Valley.
The Maple Valley site is at the Tahoma School District Office, 25720 Maple Valley-Black Diamond Road Southeast.
As of 8 p.m. Monday interest in the election was minimal, with only 19.27 percent of registered voters countywide returning their ballots thus far. Milton, at 24 percent, had the highest return rate with Kent, at 16.18 percent, having the lowest.

The county elections office is tallying results today. Those numbers will be released at 8:15 tonight at www.kingcounty.gov/elections.
The county-wide $13.3 million Veterans and Human Services Levy is the only measure on the ballot for Enumclaw residents. If approved, the average homeowner would pay $15 more a year in property taxes to assist veterans and human services programs.

The primary is for races with three or more candidates, which Enumclaw has none. Most of the local positions up for election have only one candidate, so unless there is a serious write-in hopeful that person will get the job in the Nov. 8 general election.
Enumclaw has just two contested races.
, the incumbent in Position 2 on the City Council,
will face local businessman , recent president of the Enumclaw Rotary Club.
And for the school District 4 seat, , who previously
served as PTA president at , faces as incumbent Tim Nickson did not run.
City Council candidates running unopposed are: newcomer Chance
LaFleur for Position 4 as Jeff Beckwith did not run; and Position 6 incumbent .
The Enumclaw City Council is a seven-member body, and only three
seats are open for election this year.
In the Enumclaw School District, current members in
District 1 and Corey Cassell in District 3 are running unopposed, as is April Schroeder, who was appointed to the District 2 spot a few months ago.
Five people serve on the Enumclaw School Board.
The No. 1 Commissioner position in Fire District 28, which serves Enumclaw, is also open for election this year, and David Hannity is the
only candidate.
