Update: Driver Hurt in Saturday Accident on State Route 164 Dies from Injuries

The vehicle crossed into opposing traffic before leaving the roadway and striking several trees, the Washington State Patrol reports.

An update from the Washington State Patrol Monday indicated the 26-year-old Bonney Lake man who was involved in an accident Saturday morning on State Route 164 has died.

Derek Phifer, along with a female 27-year-old passenger from Kirkland, were in a 1993 Honda Prelude headed eastbound on State Route 164 at 7:12 a.m. when the vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes, leaving the roadway and striking multiple trees just east of S.E. 392nd Street, near milepost 7.

Both were taken to Harborview Medical Center for their injuries. Patch was checking on the status of the passenger at the time of this update.
