Today's riddle: What do you call a one-legged Big Foot? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Economic factors curbing Snohomish Co. apartment construction (everettpost.com) — Apartment construction in Everett is slowing as higher costs and tighter lending make many Snohomish County projects financially unworkable, even though Everett still leads the county with 698 units underway. A new Kidder Matthews report shows developers shelving or canceling plans, shrinking the pipeline of approved projects. That could tighten future rental supply for Everett residents as demand continues.
2. Sound Transit proposed Everett light rail extension depicted in maps (everettpost.com) — Everett residents are being asked right now to weigh in on Sound Transit's 16‑mile light rail extension that would run from Lynnwood through South Everett, Paine Field, Boeing, and into downtown Everett. With billions in costs, phased openings through 2041, and local meetings scheduled in Everett and Lynnwood, your comments before November 2 will help shape station locations and the final route.
3. First Amtrak Airo passenger trains start Wednesday on Cascades (lynnwoodtimes.com) — Everett riders are about to get brand-new Amtrak Airo trains on the Cascades route, with the first sets launching this Wednesday and serving Everett Station. The new trains boost seating, cut emissions, and upgrade comfort while continuing direct service between Everett, Vancouver, B.C., Seattle, Portland, and Eugene. Local leaders are urging residents to try the improved service.
4. Westie Terriers seized by Marysville police progressing toward adoption (heraldnet.com) — Dozens of Westie terriers seized from alleged hoarding conditions in Marysville are now recovering at the Everett Animal Shelter and moving closer to being ready for adoption. After weeks in quarantine and extensive grooming and medical care, staff are scheduling spay and neuter surgeries so these dogs can soon be placed with new families in the Everett area.
5. Walter Smith (blogspot.com) — Everett is closely tied to the life of Walter Thomas Smith, a longtime Boeing worker who transferred to the Everett plant in 1968 and raised two sons who still live in the city. The 89-year-old Lynnwood resident, remembered for his square-dancing and decades at Boeing, was honored at a recent service in Everett and will be laid to rest in Missouri.
