📰 News we're reading

1. Family begs for tips in Federal Way, WA murder as shooter remains free (fox13seattle.com) — Federal Way police are still searching for 25-year-old person of interest Latre Stout, nine months after 44-year-old Kirshawn LaMarche was fatally shot at Celebration Park Apartments. LaMarche's grieving family is urging anyone with information to come forward, and Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for anonymous tips that help locate Stout.

2. Decatur Football 2026 preview: Cook to make head coach debut (federalwaymirror.com) — Decatur High's football team in Federal Way enters 2026 under new head coach Evan Cook, aiming to build on three strong seasons and close the gap with league rivals like Federal Way High. With junior quarterback Antoine Williams, several returning receivers, and rising sophomore leaders on defense, the Gators open their season Sept. 4 against Kentlake at French Field.

3. Local charity Bikes for Kids collects 18,000th bike (federalwaymirror.com) — A long-running church-based bike ministry in nearby Dash Point has now refurbished its 18,000th bicycle, many of which go to kids and adults in Federal Way. Volunteers recently supplied bikes to Federal Way high schoolers and at the Federal Way Farmers Market, and they're gearing up to donate even more as the new school year begins.

4. DOJ attacks King County for release of Mexican citizen from jail (federalwaymirror.com) — Federal Way residents should know that local police arrested a man in 2025 on a second-degree rape allegation, a case now central to a federal immigration dispute.
