Today's riddle: Why did the man leave his watch in the bank? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Judge rules in fight for controversial golf course in Pierce County (thenewstribune.com) — A Pierce County judge has cleared the way for PenMet Parks to use eminent domain to acquire the privately owned 14 acres of Madrona Links Golf Course, the only fully public course serving the Gig Harbor area. The next fight is over price, with PenMet's $470,000 offer far below the owner's earlier $2.49 million appraisal, and a jury trial set for 2027. Golfers can keep playing Madrona Links while the legal and management disputes continue.
2. 38th Avenue rolling closure begins in Gig Harbor (thenewstribune.com) — Sections of 38th Avenue in Gig Harbor are closing in rolling phases between Hunt Street and 56th Street for about three months while crews install a deep gravity sewer line. Expect detours, slower speeds and daytime construction noise, but driveway access and local businesses will remain open as the two-year, $12 million corridor upgrade adds a roundabout, sidewalks and bike lanes.
3. United by Music North America, Non Jovi to Close Out Gig Harbor Summer Concert Series (wsmag.net) — A free Summer Sounds finale is coming to Skansie Brothers Park on August 25, with Gig Harbor-based nonprofit United by Music North America opening for Bon Jovi tribute band Non Jovi. Music starts at 5 p.m., runs through 8 p.m., and residents are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. The city, Visit Gig Harbor, and the Chamber are partnering to host the show.
4. Gig Harbor High School girls (gigharbornow.org) — Gig Harbor High School's standout senior girls across multiple sports are being honored for shaping Tides athletics over their entire high school careers. From soccer and swimming to wrestling, lacrosse and more, these Super Seniors led teams to league titles, state appearances and record-breaking performances that local fans will recognize from recent seasons.
