• Rolling closure starts for major Gig Harbor road project with new roundabout (thenewstribune.com) — Expect rolling closures along 38th Avenue in Gig Harbor for about three months as crews install a 25-foot-deep gravity sewer line, the first phase of a two-year, $12 million road and roundabout project. Drivers will face one-block closures, a posted detour via Hunt, Wollochet and 56th, and a separate daytime closure on Prentice Avenue for pavement repairs.

Here are Pierce Co. food scores for Aug. 10 (thenewstribune.com) — Health inspectors recently cited Moctezuma's Mexican Restaurant on Point Fosdick Drive in Gig Harbor for 50 red-point food safety violations, including cooling and temperature issues with sauces, tomatoes, and battered fish. Most problems were corrected on site, the restaurant kept an "Okay" grade, and inspectors emphasized better cooling practices and plan-review approval for new dishwashing equipment.
   

• Filmmakers hope their upcoming movie boosts the industry in Washington (gigharbornow.org) — Two filmmakers with deep Gig Harbor roots are teaming up on a new mystery feature, with some shooting days planned in town and hopes of drawing more productions to the Puget Sound area. Producer Sean Burke, a Gig Harbor resident, and writer-director Jack Chakerian aim to leverage Washington's film tax incentives while inviting local investors and crew into the project.
