Arson Fire, Bus Accident Hit Gig Harbor Schools Wednesday

A portable building with eight classrooms was damaged in a Wednesday morning fire that was intentionally set.

GIG HARBOR, WA - Eight classrooms at Gig Harbor's Peninsula High School were damaged in a Wednesday morning arson fire, Gig Harbor fire reported Wednesday. The fire didn't disrupt classes too much, the district reported, with students temporarily rescheduled to other rooms.

The fire broke out around 4:30 a.m., according to the fire department, and was set at a portable classroom building separate from the main high school building.

"Upon the initial investigation of a portable classroom on the north side of the performing arts building, crews reported visible fire inside the doorway and that the portable was charged with smoke. After extinguishing the fire, it was clear that the fire was limited to only the door framing and plywood underlayment on the floor directly inside the doors," the department reported on Facebook.
