Local Restaurant Update: Devoted Kiss Cafe

A brand new café near Anthony's offers coffee, pastries, breakfast & lunch with a great view of the harbor.

My first question:  Where did they get the name “Devoted Kiss?”

Answer:  It’s a combination of two of the owners' nicknames.  Awww…that’s nice!  It’s personal, meaningful, and definitely unique.

The Devoted Kiss Café has been open since Friday, Nov. 18.  The owners, Jim, Debi, Christina, and Devon are fulfilling their dream by opening Devoted Kiss near in the space formally occupied by the Harbor Kitchen.

There are about 5 tables along the back windows with awesome views of the harbor.  A small deck area will make for great seating when the weather improves (someday!).  The atmosphere is exactly what I look for in a café.  There is a nice fireplace with two comfy chairs that just beg to be lounged in with a good book.  They have a bookshelf stocked with a selection of books for those who come unprepared.  Pleasant background music at just the right level and eye-catching artwork completes the scene.

Their hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily except Tuesday when they are closed for the day.  Breakfast is served until 1 p.m.  They have a selection of soups, salads and sandwiches for lunch.  A large display case offers fresh bakery items from Essential Baking Company and they feature coffee from .  They even have a tea menu for tea drinkers like me.  The Irish Breakfast tea is wonderful.

On our first visit, we tried the Mozzarella Chicken sandwich and the Prime Rib sandwich.  Wow, both were impressive.  Parmesan encrusted chicken, peppered bacon, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, artichoke hearts and mozzarella cheese with a basil mayo spread.  No shortage of flavors here!  The beef on the Prime Rib sandwich was incredibly tender.  It came with caramelized onions and Havarti cheese.  Kate went for a bowl of clam chowder, her favorite.  She loved it but couldn’t wait to finish it so she could get back to her book by the fireplace.  Chip off the old block, that one!

On my next visit, I took advantage of their free Wi-Fi to have a quiet and productive lunch alone.  The ½ Vegetable Panini I ordered was a bit on the bland side but the soup, chicken tortilla, was extremely spicy so they actually complemented each other really well.

All their sandwiches are served with hummus and pretzel chips.  You can order ½ a sandwich with a cup of soup for the same price as a whole sandwich.
