There's a Mexican Food Truck in Town!

Check out the Mexican food truck on the corner of Purdy Drive and Highway 302.

There’s a new dining option in town…and it’s on wheels!  The food truck craze has come to Purdy in the form of a Mexican Food truck parked at the corner of Purdy Drive and Highway 302 near Dexter’s Drive In and Local Boys Produce.

We decided to stop in for lunch to see what they had to offer.  I’m not a big fan of the Mexican food trucks that seem to be cropping up everywhere.  I’ve experienced wildly inconsistent food quality and service at these so I approached this with some trepidation.

The menu is small, but the prices were reasonable.  We ordered a variety of items to sample and were surprised that the bill only came to $10.  But it’s only a bargain if the food is good.  And it was…great!

I started with a steak taco with onion, salsa, cilantro, and avocado on two little corn tortillas.  The tacos are small in size but the steak was bursting with flavor and the cilantro was a refreshing addition.  Wait, there was no cheese!  Why, that’s un-American!  Exactly.  I love cheese, but I didn’t miss it one little bit.

Next was a marinated pork torta.  A torta is a Mexican-style sandwich, served on a roll.  While this was a steal at $3.99, it was pretty skimpy on the filling of pork, onion, lettuce, tomato, mayo, salsa, and jalapenos.  I would rather pay a little more and get a more substantial sandwich.

Rick ordered two chicken mulitas, which are sort of like mini quesadillas with chicken, cheese, onion, cilantro, and salsa between two small tortillas.  He squeezed a little of the lime wedge that came on the side over the mulitas and wow, that really made the other flavors pop.

Of the three proteins we tried (steak, chicken, and pork) the steak was the standout.

The service was fast, it was less than 5 minutes from the time we ordered until we got our food.  Great for those on a lunch break.  There is no place to sit which is a bummer, so plan on taking your food elsewhere or eating in the car.  It was around noon and there was a steady stream of customers stopping by.  I neglected to get their hours of operation (oops!) but I will update this as soon as I get that info.

Of course one visit does not give a comprehensive view of what their food and service will be over time but I like what I’ve seen so far.  I’ll be back to try a few more of their menu items.

Have you tried their food yet?
