Why YOU Should Blog on Patch

I recently celebrated my one-year anniversary of blogging here on Patch…or anywhere for that matter! I had just learned of Patch and was enjoying the local angle of the stories when they announced a search for local bloggers. I had to look up on Wikipedia was a “blog” was (seriously!) and then decided that this was for me.

I wrote my first post after countless Internet searches on how to write one. The answer: there is no answer. That’s the wonderful thing about it! It’s whatever you want it to be.

After hitting the “submit” button for my first post, I fought off an almost overwhelming urge to call Akiko and say “Delete that! Forget you ever heard of me!”  As an inexperienced writer, I felt very insecure. But it’s gotten easier each time and been a positive experience in all respects.

So this is where YOU come in!  Patch gets better with more people involved. It’s all about local issues, events and, most of all, people.  I would love to see some stories from people who grew up here about the history and changes of the area. Or what you really feel about the latest decision by the City Council. Or some tips about something that you have lots of experience with.  There is no end to the possibilities. Write 2 sentences about quantum mechanics or 200 sentences about why cats are better than dogs. Submit a post once a day or once a month.

That’s the beauty of it. It can be as complex or simple as you want.

I know from firsthand experience that (Gig Harbor Patch Editor) Akiko is always available to help with any questions or problems you might have, whether it’s about content or technology. Believe me, I’ve needed it and she’s always been right there to hold my hand. It’s really simple to use and you’ll be blogging away in no time.

So share what’s on your mind and don’t listen to that little voice telling you “Who would care about that?” I do and I look forward to reading about it!
