Bribery Case Involving Gig Harbor Man Settled: Feds
A flooring company working at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor did work on a Gig Harbor man's home and billed the Navy for it, according to records.
SEATTLE, WA - A national flooring company has settled with federal prosecutors over a case involving kickbacks given to a Gig Harbor defense contractor, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Seattle.
Spectra Contract Flooring will pay $134,000 to settle bribery allegations. The company, which has an office in Tukwila, was hired in 2009 for a seismic upgrade project at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor near Silverdale. The lead contractor on the job, Brent S. Meisner, had Spectra install new floors at his Gig Harbor home, and then had Spectra bill the Navy for the work, according to court records.
Meisner was sentenced last May to 18 months in federal prison for filing a false tax return, but he was released from prison in October. In paying the fine, Spectra did not have to admit to any wrongdoing, according to federal prosecutors.
