Who doesn’t love dahlias? This class covers how to grow healthy, vibrant dahlias – when to plant your tubers, why pinching your plants produces more blooms, and navigating common challenges.  Practical advice will include watering and fertilization needs and tuber over-wintering options to set you up with the confidence to grow a garden bursting with beautiful dahlias to enjoy mid-summer into the fall.  Presented by WSU Pierce Co Master Gardeners. Talk is in the Demonstration Garden at Sehmel Homestead Park, Gig Harbor. Free  and no preregistration needed.

PenMet Parks Recreation Center

The Pierce County Suicide Prevention Summit is a free, first-of-its-kind community event centered on education, connection, and hope. Hosted by Pierce County Councilmembers Robyn Denson and Paul Herrera, the Summit brings together behavioral health professionals, first responders, schools, nonprofits, and community members to reduce stigma, build resilience, and equip people with the tools to recognize and respond to suicide risk.
The event features professional development sessions, community workshops, resource organizations, youth and family activities, and concludes with the Bridge to HOPE 5K for Suicide Prevention, reinforcing the message that no one has to face mental health challenges alone. The Summit aims to spark meaningful conversations, strengthen community partnerships, and empower attendees to help prevent suicide and support one another.

Chapel Hill Church

Chapel Hill Church in Gig Harbor is launching The Parenting Course this fall, a practical and encouraging experience designed for parents of children ages 0–18.
Led live by Pastors Ellis and Rachel White, the course will help parents strengthen family relationships, build healthier rhythms at home, navigate modern parenting challenges, and create stronger emotional connection within the family.
Each evening includes practical teaching, small-group table discussion, and opportunities for encouragement and community with other parents. 
When: Wednesdays, Oct 7–Nov 4 | 6:00–8:00 pm

Gathering Place, Chapel Hill Church, 7700 Skansie, Gig Harbor, WA 98335 
 
Includes dinner for adults and kids ages 2 and up, plus kids’ program for 6 months-8th grade; parents of kids under 2, please pack a snack or meal.
