Join the Key Peninsula-Gig Harbor-Islands (KGI) Watershed for the 2026 State of the Watershed: Partnerships That Move Us Forward. It's an opportunity to connect with partners, reflect on progress across our watershed, and look ahead to the work that will move us forward together.
Topics at this event include:
• Partnerships Protecting Public Health - Pierce County has numerous marine beaches that are used by the community in many ways for recreation. This presentation highlights partnerships between many different organizations that help ensure that our community can recreate safely.
• The Burley Lagoon Geoduck Settlement Agreement: Power in Partnerships - This presentation explores the resolution of a 15-year dispute over a geoduck farm in Burley Lagoon. It highlights the milestone agreement between Taylor Shellfish and the Friends of Burley Lagoon, which allows the farm to proceed while successfully conserving critical local habitats. This session will review the history of the conflict, outline future environmental and operational plans, and discuss the transformative power of mediation in resolving complex environmental standoffs.
• Tacoma DeMolay Sandspit Shoreline Restoration: Why Key Partnerships Matter - Pierce Conservation District will present on the Shore Friendly Pierce program and how a partnership with PenMet Parks led to a large-scale shoreline restoration project at Tacoma DeMolay Sandspit Nature Preserve.
Following the presentations, there will be a panel and group discussion.
