Our property taxes have gone up an average of 19.7% for the last twelve years (using 2015 assessed valuation). A total of 287.7%
We are paying $2247.55 for local schools in 2014 and at the current rate it will increase another $452.65 for a total of $2700.21 going to local schools in 2015.
Some sharp mind pointed out that these increases were unknown by the Peninsula school board when they put forth their bond and levy requests. So by serendipitous events, (our taxes increasing) the schools get a nice bump in funds.
I don't know how I'll vote in August. $2700 seems like a fair amount from two people on fixed incomes.
Now that the economy is strengthening we may again see parents able to send their kids to private schools, abandoning the public schools and the funds per head the school district receives for those heads.
I will not support being taxed out of our home, and will work for an income tax that rescinds sales and property taxes, thereby achieving a more equitable taxation.
