Decisions, Decisions...

Today I want to briefly touch on a topic I could talk about for hours: making the decision to move to a community that provides assisted living services. Last week a woman touring our building asked me, "How does a person know when it's time to move to an Assisted Living Building?" What a great and complicated question! The response is so different for each person and every situation. The short answer is, though: You should decide to move to an Assisted Living building right before you think it's time! Assisted Living provides exactly what it sounds like- assistance for living. That means that there is support for "Activities of Daily Living", often called "ADL's". The idea being that a resident gets help with what he or she needs, so that they can use their energy and time for what they want to do! Surprise you? It surprises a lot of people who are under the impression that Assisted Living buildings are merely another name for "Nursing Homes". Putting the decision off, waiting until a person is “old” can often force one into a situation that is not one’s choice. I’ll continue writing on this topic in future posts- but for now I’m off to enjoy the weekend; hope you enjoy yours, too!
