Free Monthly Story Time at the Harbor History Museum

Each month starting in February 2012, the , in partnership with , is hosting a free children’s story time in the museum’s lobby. It is a time for school-aged children and their families to come and enjoy a different story each month, free of charge. February’s story will be Three Bears of the Pacific Northwest by Marcia and Richard Vaughan.

“This is designed specifically for the school-aged child; it’s on the weekend, it’s free, and it is something they can do with their friends and families – everyone is invited!” says Vicki Blackwell, Museum Curator.

Story Time will be held on the third Sunday of each month at 2:00 pm. Entrance to the lobby is free, and children are welcome to bring pillows, stuffed animals, blankets; anything that will make their story time more comfortable.

“This partnership offers a means to bring the joy of reading and the beauty of books to families in a welcoming venue,” says Martha Johnson, owner of No Dearth of Books. “We specialize in books about maritime and Pacific Northwest topics, so this allows us the opportunity to share historical, nautical and other local interest stories with museum visitors.”

The Gig Harbor Peninsula Historical Society dba Harbor History Museum was founded in 1963, and opened a museum in 1973.  The mission of the Harbor History Museum is to create opportunities to experience the heritage of the greater Gig Harbor communities.  We do this by collecting, preserving, and sharing this area’s history.  The museum is open April 16-January 31, Tues-Sun, 10am-5pm, except major holidays; winter hours are February 1-April 15, Weds-Sat 10am-4pm, Sundays 12pm-4pm.
