Gretchen Peters will make Morso in Gig Harbor a stop on her new Hello Cruel World concert tour on February 10, 2012 at 8 pm. Gretchen won the 1995 Country Music Award Song of the Year for Independence Day sung by Martina McBride and is performing as part of the Americana Music Series produced by Michael ONeill and Morso. Gretchen was born in New York, raised in Boulder Colorado then moved to Nashville in the 80’s where she became an amazing songwriter. She was written songs recorded by Martina McBride, Etta James, Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless, George Strait, as well as for rock singers Neil Diamond and co-writing songs with Bryan Adams. Peters has collaborated with Janis Ian, Suzy Bogguss, Tom Russell, Sylvia Tyson and countless other folk icons.
Explaining her new record, Hello Cruel World's genesis, Peters says, "In 2010 the universe threw its best and its worst at me. Some of it was personal, some global. All of it seemed to demand that I redefine my ideas of permanence and reevaluate what I believe in, to literally rethink what is real."
Besides Hello Cruel World, Peters has recorded five other solo albums: Gretchen Peters (2001), Halcyon (2004), Trio Live (2006), Burnt Toast and Offerings (2007) and Northern Lights (2008). The compilation Circus Girl was released in 2009. And that same year Peters collaborated with one of her favorite songwriters, Tom Russell, for their One To the Heart, One To the Head.
