Gig Harbor DUI Checkpoint: Police Make Arrests
Here are the results of the department's Presidents Day weekend DUI emphasis patrol.

GIG HARBOR, WA - Gig Harbor police hosted a DUI emphasis patrol on Saturday night in partnership with the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office - and it paid off.
The department stopped 175 drivers and made six DUI arrests - a 3.4 percent arrest rate, according to the department.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, almost 2,000 people died in Washington in drunk-driving accidents between 2003 and 2012. While our state's drunk driving rate is below the national average, more Washingtonians report driving drunk (2.1 percent) than the national average (1.9 percent), according to a 2012 survey.
